Most vehicles require automatic transmission fluid, while a manual model uses transmission oil. Maintaining the proper amount of clean fluid is important so that your unit remains cool and shifts properly. If the fluid becomes dirty or is aging, a transmission fluid exchange may be in order. However, some fluid lags behind, hiding in the more obscure locations. If the fluid is nasty, perhaps a transmission flush will be necessary. In this procedure, the fluid is forced through until it runs clean, eliminating left-behind contaminants. You may opt for a rebuild when a repair is required beyond one of these services. This term describes transmission dismantling, cleaning all parts, and replacing worn/broken parts and seals/gaskets. Usable parts go back into reassembly. This saves time and money and keeps the original transmission in the car. The transmission is again fully functional, but the risk is that another part could break at an uncertain time. The more extensive and expensive transmission replacement calls for installing a different unit, often a remanufactured model with a warranty provided by the provider.
