An Overview of the Check Engine Light

The check engine light, which has been in its current second generation since the mid-1990s, comes on when it’s time for mechanical service and/or repair. This alert is universal, meaning that the same code indicates the same categorical issue regardless of the make or model you drive. The code points to the area where the problem has occurred.
